i have two cockatiels and they have been bitting each other so i recently put them in seperate cages. i usually let them roam the floor of my room for about an hour and when i walked in my room to get my cell phone one of my birds (lee) came charging at me and i put my finger out so he could sit on it like he usually likes to do but he started bitting me and i lifted my finger to pull it away and he wouldnt let go. i tried to calm him down but then he bit my thumb and i had to put a trash can over him!! why is he suddenly acting this way? and he bit through my skin... not like he was playing around or something... i've had him for 2 years now i dont think he sees me as a threat. so why would he do that?

  1. what are the genders of the two birds? If they are a female-male pair i would not let them out together because of the fact they could breed or might act territorial towards you to protect there mate. I would just put their cages side-by-side so they interact and see each other from a safe distance.

P.S watch your birds don't just let them roam alone on your floor!

  2. you should try to keep him in the cage more or get him or her one of the fake birds so he can bite that i had to do that with my bird he dose not bite me no more good luck

  3. Maybe he's finally p****ed off enough to let you know that birds

    don't belong in cages.

Contrary to the BS you hear from people who try to justify imprisoning birds, they will survive if you release them.

Wouldn't you rather take your chances on the street than be locked in a confined space unable to choose who you mix with and where you go?

  4. Has anything else changed: Scenery, schedule, etc. May be seasonal, maturity. Like previously stated they could be mating pairs. Spend time with them one on one to resocialize them.

  5. You say you have two cockatiels? Do you know if one is male and one is female? Chances are they are a mating pair and he thinks your a threat to his mate. Biting is normal amongst mating pairs. Check if their male and female and read up on how to take care of mating pairs. Be prepared to cause their maybe a lil egg on the way! XD
