Question:

Whats wrong with my car stereo?

i have a 1998 Jetta k2. When I bought the car, the stereo speakers would kick in and off when i went over bumps and turns and stuff like that. It had an aftermarket headunit in it when i bought it with factory speakers. I thought maybe the speakers where going in the car, so I replaced them. It still happens, so do you think that possibly the speakers need new wires to the headunit or do you think the wires are ok but they need to be rewired into the headunit? Who can I get to do this? Thank you

  1. It's possible that the wires connecting from the back of the radio to the factory wiring is loose. It's hard to troubleshoot without being in the vehicle checking it out. You could have a short in one of the speaker wires also. This would cause your speakers to cut out. I'd start by looking behind your JVC since that'll be the easiest trouble shooting. If everything checks out fine, then the next best think would probably be running new speaker wire to all your new speakers.

  2. if the wires are not loose, check to see if any bare wires can touch each other because it is definitely shorting out.
