Question:

Whats wrong with my dogs eye?

The skin around it that is usually black has turned pink/white and its so swollen that i can't see any of the white of his eye. he keeps it closed when i try to get a closer look. its not leaking that i know of but he does rub at it a lot. At first i thought he must have just poked it badly but its been like this for three days and hasn't gotten any better.

I just want to know is this just like pink eye for dogs or can it possibly be something more serious i plan on taking him to the vet either way but it would be nice to know now. If you have any ideas or suggestions of what i can do for the time being to help with his eye until his appointment i'd appreciate them.

  1. Until you get to the vet, maybe try putting a warm compress on it - run a cloth under warm water, wring it out, and hold it on his eye for a bit, then repeat.  If it's an infection, it'll help draw some of it out.  I wouldn't poke around too much, let the vet do that part.  Good luck!

  2. Why in the world would you let something like this go on for three days?  If he has been rubbing it for three days, it has obviously been giving him discomfort.  Get him into the vet today and get the poor dog some relief.  No one on here can possibly know what is the matter with your dog's eye.  We can't see it and we are not vets.

  3. JUST LET HIM REST ALOT SO HE WONT FEEL SO BAD THEN TAKE HIM TO THE VET MAYBE PUT SOME ICE ON HIS EYE EVERY FEW HOURS

  4. It is now Wednesday.  At the earliest, this question was asked on Monday, if not Tuesday.  Where do you live that Monday and Tuesday are considered the weekend?  And anywhere there are animals in the Western world, there are things known as "Emergency vets".  So, stop insulting other members here when they simply tell you what you do not want to hear - that your dog needs a vet, not an owner that would rather get an internet diagnosis.  Have a nice day!

  5. make some chamomile tea and wash his eyes while the tea is warm with a cloth. Repeat this every few hrs,it usually helps

  6. Only a vet that has examined your dog can give you a diagnosis.  I would make an appointment ASAP... you don't want this to affect your dog's vision.  In the meantime, I would keep a warm, damp cloth on your dog's eye (if he will let you).

    Good luck!
