my cat is like 2 or less than 2yrs old. i think hes like a little younger than 1 yr because we got him at the beginning of the year AND NOW HE LOOKs like hes grown. anyways our dogs are little too and they play with him but they bite his neck. we made them stop picking on him since he had gotten scabs because of the bites. now hes got like goo on his neck and his hair fell off or something because hes missing hair from that area. he doesn't seem like hes hurting or anything, but he has been more calm than usual. its also a little swollen. i know i should take him to the doctors but were still paying from our deceased dog. maybe we might if its too much of an emergency.

  1. it is most likely an abscess.  abscesses are basically puss filled infections that are caused by bites or scratches.  you should definitely take him to the vet because abscesses have to be drained and cleaned.  they will most likely cut it open and let it drain and clean it and then leave it open to heal normally.  it shouldnt be too expensive but you should really take him to the vet.

  2. It does sound like kitty has an abssess - If its infected it will have a discharge and sometimes an oder- Here's what you can do to minimize the infection until you get him to the vet-  Ready- this is kinda gross but you have to do it before it gets too bad-you must drain that abssess-usually there's a scab sometimes it hard to find - you have to pull that scab off and drain the puss out- once you have done that - get some hydrogen peroxide and syring from the pharmacy- they have them for babies (of course its without the needle)- draw up some hydrogen peroxide and squirt it INTO the wound-  Also be checking kitties temp- it should be between 100 and 102.5- if its higher than kitty needs to get to the vet- infections reak havoc on the kidneys - also your cat can become dehydrated -to minimize the risk of dehydration- feed wet food for now.    Clean wound three to four times a day - the hydrogen peroxide is safe for kitty-  some vets will recommend batadine solution but I have found that this stings more than the peroxide.  This is really simple stuff- and the cost for these things really cheap-  it a temporary thing until you get him to the vet-  It may be too that he heals with just some simple cleaning- keep checking his temp though.  good luck

  3. Veterinarians are in the business because they love animals and if you have a suffering cat then chances are they will work with you to figure out payment issues either through a financing plan or through vouchers that are offered by many local charities for just this kind of situation.

Right now your first priority needs to be your kitty's health. Money can be dealt with later. Bring him to the vet.
