Question:

Whats wrong with my parakeet/budgie?

So, my parakeet has been itching this one part of her neck for about a month or two now. The area is the normal pink parakeet skin with some black speckled over it and like dry skin on it, too. My dad thinks it might be mites but I'm not so sure because I read that parakeets tend to get sluggish when they have mites and my bird seems perfectly healthy other than the spot. Any help? Thanks for your comments!

  1. The bird might have mites or it might be getting bored and biting itself which is causing scab on the skin. Get it some new toys.

  2. Is he plucking his feathers out? Give a call to your avian vet or to the place that you purchased your pet from. It may be something very simple. Good luck! kjl

  3. take your bird to the vet, and u might want to try new bird food, it could be the reason it is itching. Air freshner can kill your bird so dont use it.

  4. Well, keep warm water on this! Dont play doctor, dont put anything on it. Warm, and when you see it scratch it, tell him/she to not scratch!
