i went outside with my rabbit in my hands and he started freaking out , he jumped out of my hands and fell on a basketball net thingie. i don't think he got hurt , but he's acting really weird, he's running around and then stops at one spot and smells it and then does it again at a different spot. he keeps on scratching my couch, is that normal rabbit behaviour cause he doesn't really act like this

  1. It's common, because he doesn't know much about the outside, and goes out to explore. I don't think he was freaking out, I think he was exploring, by walking around and sniffing around. I don't know about the couch thing.

  2. Your poor rabbit is freaking out because it doesn't know where it is and it's system is on overload.  The scratching is the rabbit trying to find a place to hide.  Does it have a safe place?  Somewhere it can hide as if it were able to burrow underground like it's wild cousins?  If not, please get it a hidey-hole...  And be careful that your rabbit doesn't go into system overload and have a heart attack!

Meanwhile, you can introduce your rabbit to the outside.  I would suggest moving it's cage outside (make sure it has somewhere it can hide in it's cage) for short periods of time.  Eventually, you can condition it be comfortable enough to play on the grass in an enclosed/fenced play area.

  3. Yes it is very normal. usually you should hold the rabbit gentley and firmly so he cant hop out of your hands when taking it to a new place. And its natural for them to run around, maybe he smells a different scent from another animal there. Sometimes they run around and hop at the same time because their getting exercise. And my rabbits scratch at the couch too, their just trying to dig in it.

  4. your rabbit is very afraid and the scratching is a sign of complete frenzy and your rabbit is not in control of his fear. talk to him calmly and pet him and tell him every thing is ok. give him treats and dont make any loud noises or sudden movements
