she's an albino and we think she was the runt of the litter. she's gone blind as albino's are prone to, but she now seems very weak and keeps toppling over when she's sitting on her hind legs to eat. she's about 1 year old(human terms). we don't know whats wrong - her "sister"(same litter, also an albino) seems perfectly healthy. can anyone help?

  1. she might of had a stroke. take her to the vets and they will let you know

  2. Its gonna die soon

    rats don't live that long

  3. Albino's just have really poor vision, they aren't 'prone to' blindness.  :)

When rats get older, they usually get weak in their hind in.  That could be why she falls over when eating.  Though, at one year old, she's awfully young to be having those problems. I 'd have a vet check her out, as she could have a pituitary tumor, or some over reason for this.  Being a runt means she probably won't live as long as her sibling, but she shouldn't be having problems this soon.

I hope they figure out what's going on. :) There are definitely treatments for both hind end degeneration and PT tumors that can prolong and make their life more comfortable.

  4. take her to the vet

it could be an ear infection which effects balance

    or worse case a tumour

am taking my rat darcy to check a big lump on the back of his neck checked.
