I have a 1986 Yahmaha Fj1200. Its nothing sepcial to me i plan on buying a harley next year but i figured i would buy this bike first since i'm a new rider. Uhmm i just had the carbs cleaned and had the jets and floats replaced in the carbs. The bike starts and sounds good but the throttle does not pop back it sticks and it almost like cruise control. i have to pull the throttle forward in order for the bike to decelerate. whats wrong. I greeced the throttle whcih is what a web site said to do but that only helped in a little. Any ideas?

  1. take it into a dealership and have them replace the throttle handle. It will cost a little, but sure beats the hassel that you would be going through trying to figure out the problem.

  2. I hope you didn't literally use grease. You actually use a very thin oil and not much at that. Was it sticky before you "fixed" it? Try disassembling the whole throttle control  and see if it moves freely without the two mounting bracket pieces attached. If it still ticks, you may want to bite the bullet and have a mechanic check it out. It's a really big safety item. It's a better bike than a Harley BTW.

  3. maybe your throttle cable

  4. It sounds like a binding throttle cable, but there could be a lot of possiblities. If you just had the work done, bring it back and complain. The shop is the one that messed up your bike. They should offer to fix it for you.

  5. Try disconnecting the cable and work the carbs and throttle grip separately. This will pinpoint a faulty cable or binding in the carb/linkage assy.
