Question:

Whats wrong with my tire?

I have started having some major bumpy vibration on my car like there is a wheel out of balance. I felt around on all of the tires and my drivers side rear has an odd spot on it. Its a square shapped spot a couple inches wide and a few inches long, its not a flat spot but more of a sinking spot in the tire. Its only in one spot on the tire and only on one tire. I am curious as to what could cause this. Could there be a problem with the internal steel belt maybe? The tread in this spot is not really anymore worn than on the rest of the tire the spot is just sunk in, looks like someone is pulling it in from the inside. I would just like to get an idea of what would cause this before i throw a new tire on there. Want to make sure its a problem with the tire and not the car.

  1. sounds like a belt has broken or rolled.  take it to a tire dealer that sells that brand of tires for an inspection, depending on the age, you may get a prorated price.

  2. Are the tires properly inflated?

    It could be a steel belt moving around.  It could be a symptom of a problem with the car too.

    You have not provided enough information

    * car type, model, year,

    * inflation pressure of all four tires (cold)

    * tire type, brand, model, size

    My friend had similar symptoms when she got some tar and gravel caught in the tread from a freshly oiled and graveled parking lot.  It took several hundred miles for the stuff to get out of the tread.

  3. manufacturing defect.

  4. The tire is bad. replace it

  5. any indent or bubble on a tire means the tire is bad. replace the tire. you are running the risk of a blow out which can lead to an accident. the car is not the problem.

  6. Bad suspension components as well as alignment..
