Whats wrong with my usb?

i just realized that all 3 of my usb ports do not work. ive had the problem for maybe a week or longer. ive reinstalled all of them, but now when i plug in any usb device a message comes that says the device has malfunctioned and windows cannot recognize it, reconnect it and try again, otherwise replace the device. the device isnt shown in device manager. could i need a bios update? this isnt my first computer problem, everytime i turn on my computer it has to check one of my disks. random programs get disabled. i've run spywares but they dont find anything. is all of it connected? is it possible that i have a virus? do i need a new computer?

Your hard drive may be going out. I would back up everything asap. After getting that done try wiping your HD, and re-installing your OS. With just the USB I would say go into control panel/system/device manager. Uninstall your USB controller and reboot. When you boot back up windows will automatically install the default controller. That may fix the USB problem. The other problems however I don't think are linked.

Hi friend,

           The first thing I want to tell you is, to check the USB device..(whether its working on other coms).If they do work on other systems,then here is the real problem.Try installing the correct files of USB from the cd you received from your computer manufacturer,or else try to install a new XP (this is the most common remedy for almost all the problems).

These two steps are going to solve ur query for sure!
