It was fine untill the other day but now its not cooling right. It can blow cold air but it keeps clicking on and off the cooling cycle. It will cool for like 5 minutes and won't click back on for like a half hour. The a/c is only like 1 year and half old. Its a Pelonis, it was like 79.99 @ Walmart. I cleaned the filter and sprayed down the coils with WD40 to no avail.

I had another one that did the same thing! Before that I had this old Kelvanoator which lasted like 10 years, no problem.

  1. You have a problem with your thermostat, remove the face cover and theres a small tube attach to to cooling fins. Put a plastic hose on it and put it back then turn on the unit and observe it.

  2. I don't agree with any of the answers you have received. Too many wierd-os. First don't spray the coils with oil. This only attracts dirt to collect. Second, my guess is your outside coil is plugged with dirt. This is the side where the hot air blows outside. Chect the coil on the inside of the air conditioner to see if the coil is restricted.

  3. ok

  4. The first thing to check is the thermostat. Sorry to say, but with such an inexpensive unit, you usually get what you pay for.

  5. Your breath burned it out. Sometimes with A/C we don't need to close the window, we need to close our MOUTH!

  6. It is blowing the circuit breaker.

  7. HVAC Tech.: WD40 is not what you clean any a/c unit with. It sounds like part of the charge is gone, ( a micro leak?) The overload is kicking the compressor out to protect it from burn-out. When thermal breaker cools,it comes back on.Repair would cost more than replacement ( that is why they are called "throw away units" You should check to see if the warranty will replace it, there should be a 5 year warranty.

  8. The switch is bad most likely.

Probably not much you can do.

You could try and find one to replace it, but you may just be better off to get a new unit..

Try tapping on the thermostat a few times and see if it is sticky.

    Sorry

    GOOD LUCk

  9. this might be a silly answer but have you checked the temperature it's set at?

  10. Take the cover off the compressor and bypass the overload

It is a black disk that shuts down the Compressor if it over heats. These themselves fail and get weak. If you bypass it and the unit stays running replace it. Don't leave it bypassed.

  11. Perhaps it lost gas and the compressor won't kick in.

  12. low on freon
