  1. "Free Will" was coined in opposition to "Calvinist Determinism." If means that at any time you can make a choice of what to do. Your life is not preplanned by a supreme being.

"Free" and "Will" should not be separated in this context. People are not "free" to "will" something. They can simply choose actions.

  2. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as long as it doesn't infringe upon someone elses

  3. I Don't Believe we have free will. Yes we have choices but these choices are limited by our society ,we don't truly have free will.

So if i take free will as meaning  "that as conscious human beings we are free to make genuinely undetermined choices in circumstances where we are genuinely able to do so, and where we so freely, or (relavently) unconstrainedly, choose to do so"

If i take it that way, then free will in our society is most improbable, as we are constrained by law, social norms and values. So for us our choice are determined by the society and we do have choices but we make them with law in mind, so free will doesn't exisit that.

i was doing this debate is my philosophy and someone brought up suicide, And said well suicide is a expression of free will, i agreed with him. Yes if one is truly free then his life is his own, and if he chooses to end it then yes he is free. But inour society, this is seen as wrong, some may use relgious arguements, god gave you life, so you should not take it away. But we are in a supposed free world, and we have freedom, but yet we are not allowed to take our own life...

Im not saying i agree with suicide, but it does give you something to think about. If we were truly free, then we should be free to decide what to do with our own life, some people do, and gain free will. But the majority of us, have no free will what so ever, and are determined by the society we live in.

  4. Well our liberties are not what they once were, but all the same America is still a 'free will' nation.  You can choose what occupation you want; what school of higher learning you will attend; what grocery store you want to shop at.  Where you will take your vacations.  The list goes on-and-on.

  5. a normal person being able to express themselves and live a happy life. without a penalty is what i thing is free will
