Mine would be Rabbit proof fence, open water and the texas chainsaw massacre ( inspired by a true story)

So far, Into The Wild is the best based on real events I have seen.  Probably because it was told so well and Emile Hirsch was fantastic in the role of Chris.

***Shawshank Redemption IS NOT based on real events.  Stephen King has said he based the story on the prison movies he watched while growing up.

***Thomas Harris based some of his main characters on real people but the events are fictional.

***The events in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre didn't happen either.  Director Tobe Hooper claims to have got the idea for the film while standing in the hardware section of a crowded store. While thinking of a way to get out through the crowd, he spotted the chainsaws

First, "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Silence of the Lambs" are both works of FICTION, not based on or inspired by ANY true events.  Saying that they are is like saying that "Aminal House" was inspired by true events because there have to be some frats SOMEWHERE that were closed and kicked off of some campus.
