  1. I'm not a big diesel fan but I do like the 08/09 shunters. They have been around for c.55 years and are based on designs that are even older.

I've seen them at work on the Netherlands Railways where a munber were sold on and I've also footplated one.

Another diesel which I liked but alas is no more, was the Midland Pullman.

  2. class 52 western c-c diesel hydraulic 1962-1977 the best!

  3. Deltic class 55 'The Black Watch'. I heard it set off from Wakefield Westgate on full song on the climb towards Outwood in 1979 with a train from Kings Cross - Leeds, and it got me into train spotting for the next 9 years.

  4. I agree that the original Deltic is a contender. However, for me, being on board the  Fort William sleeper as it is hauled up the inclines by a Class 37 is for me just the tops!!

  5. English Electric class 37, a good workhorse for BR for30 years.Got a little prone to main generator flash-over in later years  but still good.

  6. deltic 1041 from crewe works

  7. Deltic

  8. Class 08 shunter

I have fond childhood memories of watching these powerful little engines push and pull coal/ballast wagons around rugby sidings and thier distinct horn sound echoing across the valley

  9. my sons favourite diesel train is a class 60, i know that is not the same but dont be too harsh on him hes only 6!

  10. this has to be the 'original' Deltic, but i also like the 'westerns',and the 'hymeks'

  11. Class 42 Warships,sadly only 2 preserved.Have re-discovered them via Trainz Railway Simulator.Also 50`s 52`s 37`s 17`s 35`s 24/5`s 26`s and more!Build  your own routes and run them all. Brill.

  12. I'm not an anorak, i have a life, but each to their own baby!

  13. Without any doubt, it's got to be the English Electric Type 3, more commonly known as a Class 37 (a.k.a "A TRACTOR")

The most fun you'll ever have on 12 wheels with your cloths on. Loud as they come, plenty of guts, nice cab, reliable as clockwork.

I like them so much, I even brought one myself!

They're big, they're loud and they rattle. A propper boys toy!!!

  14. Deltic.  The only diesel ever capable of holding a candle to an A4.

  15. Mines a class 50 no 50007 in green as Sir Edward Elgar.
