  1. I'm goin with Emjay and Cakes on this one. The one moment we South Africans can det into a heated debate on politics etc. and give us a chop en a dop then we start to joke and laugh about the situation.

No matter how por or rich you are we all can relate to each other and everybody has their own lil accents and words they use to describe stuff. I just have to laugh at all the word I've heard since I've moved to Cape Town.

  2. Their cooking.

Lee j, why are you so angery. It is not good for you.

Try and see the glass half full for once instead of almost empty.

  3. the wild animals that you can find in their natural habitat

  4. they're a wild hardened type of people that dont complain over silly things, they just get on with things plus I like that most of them are so open-minded.

  5. The awesome food and the friendliness!

  6. eh...vodka has no idea what he's on about...

you think that all colored's and blacks are happy now, NO. racism is still massive in south africa, look the rugby team? like 2% is black. yet 90% of the country is black? WTF? its the same with cricket! dont give me that sh'it saying maybe blacks arent good at the game, they are, and even if they arent, a country's team should be reprisented by the majority of the countrys people.

and the thing i like most about being a south african is afrikaans, for some reason a story just sounds so much better when said in afrikaans! haha

  7. Their sunny humour.

  8. From here - it has to be their loyalty and love of their sports heroes. I get emailed to death every time the Springboks play, every time they win, every time they lose, every time someone gets hurt or pulls a game out of the mire with some brilliant move.. I get voice mails, emails. GTalk calls and once I even got a snail mail about them. I have even gotten an advert email from the satellite people trying to sell me satellite so that I could watch the games live and as they are happening. (My sister and brother-in-law's doing I am sure.)

    Yup  Gotta be Loyalty.

Hennie - do not correct that jargon - it was deliberate. :o)

  9. The sound of the birds in the bush just before nightfall as they all shrill out their unique calls to each other before dark and then silence as blackness engulfs the tree-tops and everything else, and the jabbering and barking of the baboons in the rocky hills as they too settle down for the night

And the chirping of the cricket and the tree frogs and th e distant hyena cries, at night, soothing and relaxing as you slip off to sleep, in your sleeping bag under a bush, shrouded in the African night.

Or walking upon a herd of impala, or kudu or water buck and not stampeding the herd, or catching the striking odour of lions, probably resting under a tree after a kill, and stay down wind.

Meeting the Old Madahla riding his bicycle loaded with stuff that he has to sell and the customary invite to come to his kraal to meet everyone, and you end up waking up the next morning in bed, in a hut with a king sized barbi,( Babbalaz) at the party that they threw for you.

Then, after giving the first wife a gift of money, the Chief would refuse it because you were his honoured guest,

you pick up your stuff, untouched, and move on.

Africans were happy to see us in those days.

These are my cherished memories of Africa, when Africa was a good place for people to be.
