  1. Probably similar to some foreign french cheese.

  2. It's a medical disorder resembling arthritis in which uric acid is not metabolized properly and accumulates in cartilage tissue, causing arthritic pain and inflammation.

  3. It's a disease that is caused by high levels of uric acid that is brought on by rich foods and used to be called the "Rich Man Disease."  My dad has it and gets arthritic like pain in the joints of his ankles, knees and toes.  More men than women are likely to inherit this disease.

  4. Gout is the accumulation of excess uric acid in the body, which crystallizes around a joint (most often the big toe) and causes the area to be extremely tender and sore, enough to impede motion and be debilitating. Trust me, I know -- I've had several attacks of gout in the past year or two.

Gout can be treated by various medications. Its symptoms can also be alleviated by home remedies as well, such as eating wild cherries.

Gout can be prevented by avoiding certain triggers, such as carbonated drinks, chocolate, rich foods (such as liver and other organ meats).
