What´s that needle-like bone in chickens ?

A very sharp bone that looks like a needle. What purpose does it serve ?

  1. I'm pretty sure that you mean the fibula in the drumstick. It's equivalent to the smaller bone in your calf. Originally, it supported the leg and served as attachment for muscles but it has degenerated a lot in birds and the tibia (the larger bone next to it) took over.


  2. I can't think of any bone that really fits that description.  What piece of chicken do you normally find it in?

    If it's the drumstick, it may be the fibulla.  If it's the breast piece, it might be a severed half of the furcula (the wishbone).
