  1. Queestown

  2. Wanaka. It has all that Queenstown has to offer but without the crowds, traffic and noise. North Island I would have to say a little town south of Whangerei called Ruakaka. Right on the bay, beautiful view of Mt. Manaia and quiet.

  3. Paihia in the Bay of Islands, North Island

Beautiful little Islands all over, good kite surfing, beach, small town with very friendly people, party every night of the week @ the Salty Dog Tavern

    Cape Reinga, North Island

Most breathtaking views, where the Tasman Sea meets the Ocean

  4. Christchurch, especially in the fall with the leaves turning colors all along the river.  Love the old architecture and terribly British feel to it.  Folks in Christchurch seem happy to describe themselves as more British than the British, and it really is like stepping back in time at least a hundred years to go there.

There are only three areas in NZ large enough to qualify as a city:  Aukland, Wellington, and Christchurch.  All the others are towns or villages, and I agree that many of them are lovely, but they don't address the question.

  5. I think Auckland is my favourite city in New Zealand closely followed by Dunedin.

  6. napier and hastings.

the best weather in the country. wineries and orchards surround both cities. the coast around napier. the architecture, art deco and spanish mission.

relaxed lifestyle. and its not auckland..

  7. my mom's friend live in nelson christchurch in new zealand, it is farmland and people is very nice and area is peaceful to stay. but check out their tourism, they might inform you where is the best spot there is. remember lord of the ring were shot in new zealand. good luck on your plan..

  8. I would have to say Queenstown because of the Mountains & Lakes that surround it.

  9. That is a tough one, as so many of New Zealands cities are beautiful in their own right.  I think Christchurch is probably the most beautiful in the urban sense.  The streets and neighborhoods are clean and well cared for.  the parks are welcoming and are not just an after thought.  The civic center businesses, offices and museums are sensibly laid out and acttractive.  Plus you have pleasant Kiwis going about their daily lives, filling this tableau with positve and friendly energy.

Queenstown get honourable mention. There are few communities anywhere that have a setting as awesome as Queentown.  And the vibrant waterfront exudes a healthy active vibe.  Still Queens town is not quite a city.

  10. I am not sure if it qualifies technically.

I will defer to experts from NZ.

However no where in NZ is that large if you want to be picky, thats part of its charm. I am not picky so my vote goes to !!!!!

    Queenstown.

It has a waterfront and magnificent lakes.

    It has a village atmosphere.

    It has extreme sports.

But all this is surrounded by the most magnificent mountain scenery.

If you go up the cable car you can eat at the restaurant overlooking Queenstown. You can see Queenstown in all its beauty.

The town set out before you, the waterfront, the little paddle steamer that goes about its business up and down and accross the lake. The speedboat towing the parascendor who then suddenly does a bungy jump before being dropped gently back down.

The hang glidders gliding by on there way down to the valley below.

And all arround the Mountains magnificent and shrouded in mist and then as the sun burns stronger and the mist burns away, what is this more mountains up the other arm of the lake as yet unseen emerge in full splender.

What are these remarkable mountains called I ask the waiter.

Well Sir he replies they are the 'Remarkables'.

    I rest my case.

  11. Id say i agree with mattcan and fogjazz. Christchurch is a truly lovely place.Autumn is my favourite time of the year as all the trees turn shades of yellow or red and daffodils pop up in all the parks and along the road sides. Its something i miss, living in a tropical part of Australia now its hard to tell what season it is as there are not many trees and lots of palms.

  12. On North Island I have to go with Napier.

And on South Island Nelson.  Queenstown dosn't qualify as it's not a city.

Technically a city is the place of a cathederal and of a bishop.  In New Zealand the Dioceses are

    N Island

    Auckland

    Nelson

    Wellington

    and

Waikato which is based in Hamilton.

    S Island

    Christchurch

    Dunedin

    and

    Waiapu Which is in Napier.

  13. I don't know but Auckland is'nt one of them.

  14. North Island-Wellington

South Island-Queenstown the view from the gondola station
