I don’t have a Phone line in my house so I was wondering what is it for? I’m planning on getting Dish Network (Hd-DVR plan) soon and just wanted to know what it’s for.

  1. Satellite Guy is correct. It is very easy to set-up wireless phone line via two adaptors you just connect to your power outlets.

    Check http://www.smarthome.com/4509i.html as an example.

This is cheaper than paying $5/month!!

  2. You need that hooked up to your wall phone jack if you want to order PPV movies.   It also serves as a caller ID when someone calls while the TV is on.

  3. Dish does require that any two room receiver to be hooked up to a phone line, if not they charge $5 more.  Originally I only had a one room receiver with no phone line.  I would have to call an 800 number to order movies.

We now have a 722 (HD-DVR) and we love it.  I would suggest getting it when you upgrade.  We are now able to watch recordings from our living room while in our bedroom.
