Whay can I dial a toll free number without a 1 prefix? I found an 888 nuber that I can dial without using the 1 prefix. But if I use the 1 prefix I get a different party. Why? Can the 888 be a area code? Not listed in area codes.

  1. If you are using a cell phone, most LD numbers can be dialed without a '1' first.. 800, 877, 888 are toll free numbers, that in most areas do not require the '1'..

  2. because it's a toll free code so it doesn't apply to your long distance policy...you have to dial a 1 long distance but not for toll free and local calls

  3. listen very closley.....

    it aint a dial code.

  4. It depends on where you are calling (area code), to your own (area code).  If the toll free rings in your area code, without the 1 dialed, its toll free anyways.  That is why it works without the 1 being dialed.  The 1 is to dial long distance, the 800's are the toll free part.  You can check area codes with AT&T.
