Question:

Wheelset upgrade recommendations?

My current ride is a Trek 7.3 FX, which came with Bontrager Camino wheels (700, not 26"). I think upgrading them would give me a more enjoyable riding experience, but I'm not looking to put $1000 wheels on a $450 bike. Any recommendations on a wheel-set that would give me a better ride without going too crazy cost-wise?

  1. The Mavic Aksium wheelset is good value for money.

  2. Y Not Spend All The Money On New Hubs Sorts The Bearing Issue And The Weight U Might Have To Buy New Spokes And Pay To Get Them Fitted But I Think It Will Be The Best Way Of Doing It

  3. Mavic Ksyriums/etc are nice, although I think they start at the $300 dollar range.

Another option would be hand-built, 32-spoked, Open Pros, but then again they might not be any better than your old wheels.

Are you going for just lighter wheels, or stronger?

  4. the other recommendatins are good, but price and weight ratio, you cant beat easton's EA70, or velomax circuit wheel set. (same wheels, easton purchased velomax)

yes the mavic aksuim (sp?) are in the same price range, but are 300 grams heavier than easton.

also look at FSA and ritchy WCS. all higher end wheels, but more economical.

"More enjoyable riding experience"? I don't think changing the wheelset will help.
