The chairman of Wigan Athletic Dave Whelan believes that the Latics manager Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 may turn down the management offer at Anfield, despite being considered as the favourite for the post.
The 38-year old Spaniard met the owners of Liverpool’s parent company Fenway Sports Group earlier in Miami, to discuss the subject of his appointment as the Reds new manager.
Liverpool axed Kenny Dalglish from the managerial position last week. The club reportedly short-listed 12 candidates for the job, and have already seen their offers turned down by Pep Guardiola, Brendan Rodgers, Frank de Boer and Jurgen Klopp.
Even though Whelan had allowedMartinez to hold meetings with the representatives of the Merseyside club, he felt that the Wigan boss will likely reject the terms and conditions of his selection, as he currently enjoys complete control over the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c20060 and
the senior squads at the DW Stadium.
He told the reporters, “Roberto likes total control, from the youngsters at 16 to the first team. If he doesn't get that I don't think he will take the job.”
The 75-year old was also critical of FSG’s attitude, who took over the reins of Liverpool in October 2010 from former owners George N. Gillett, Jr and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Hicks. He pointed out that the American based company was not familiar with nature of English football
and undertook a lot of decisions in haste recently.
He also revealed that the new manager at Anfield will not be handed over complete control over the squad, and the fear of getting fired will always be looming over his head.
He continued, “My information is that the new Liverpool manager will not be given full responsibility of the football department… There will be somebody else signing players and they might not necessarily be the choice of the manager.”
He also advised the Spaniard against assuming the Liverpool http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, after helping the Latics maintain their stay in the Premier League with an impressive finish to the 2011/12 campaign.
He added, “My advice to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are a big club and I hope that they remain one of the big clubs.”
