system at Anfield.

Whelan revealed that the Spaniard wanted the same control over the squad like he enjoyed at the DW Stadium, and garnered differences with the Reds owners over the introduction of a new three-tier director strategy, which aimed at reducing the responsibilities
of the manager.
While talking to reporters, he said: “He didn’t quite agree with the way they wanted to run the club with some of the responsibilities being taken from the manager and passed to a football director or whatever.”

With Rodgers succeeding the Kop legend Dalglish as the new manager at Anfield, Whelan admitted that he was a worthy choice for the job and highlighted his remarkable achievements at the Liberty Stadium.
