Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan unearthed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez turned his back on the management offer from Liverpool after developing differences with the members of the Reds top hierarchy over the introduction of the new three-tier director
system at Anfield.
The 38-year old Spaniard carried out multiple meetings with the club owners, following Kenny Dalglish’s axing earlier in May and was widely tipped to take over the reins of the Merseyside club as manger. However, the Reds eventually handed over the post
to former Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers, who recently re-emerged as the frontrunner for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 and Liverpool over the final terms of the deal.
Whelan revealed that the Spaniard wanted the same control over the squad like he enjoyed at the DW Stadium, and garnered differences with the Reds owners over the introduction of a new three-tier director strategy, which aimed at reducing the responsibilities
of the manager.
While talking to reporters, he said: “He didn’t quite agree with the way they wanted to run the club with some of the responsibilities being taken from the manager and passed to a football director or whatever.”
The 75-year old had earlier predicted that Martinez will spurn the Liverpool’s overture, as he currently enjoys total control over the senior and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c20060 squads at the DW Stadium and he won’t get the same liberty at the Merseyside club.
He told the reporters that he met him following his final meeting with the Liverpool owners, and he informed him that he rejected the Reds proposal after garnering differences with them over the idea of running the club in future.
With Rodgers succeeding the Kop legend Dalglish as the new manager at Anfield, Whelan admitted that he was a worthy choice for the job and highlighted his remarkable achievements at the Liberty Stadium.
The Irishman had earlier replaced Martinez at Swansea in July, 2010.
Whelan said, “I know he took over from Roberto at Swansea and Roberto had laid down the rules and regulations and the way they played and the lad picked it up and has had two great seasons.”
He went on to felicitate Rodgers on getting selected for the post and offered his best wishes to him and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
