When, exactly, did people like a Prime Minister?

Everyone on the site is constantly moaning about Gordon Brown and his government, but in the same light, everyone moaned about Thatcher.

So who was a good prime minister? Who are we trying to get another version of? When was the public pleased with the country's leadership?

And people from within your own experience, please. Don't just state Churchill because he 'got us through the war'
