  1. The republican party or Grand Old Party was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the first GOP president to be elected was Abraham Lincoln, Republicans have had a strong reputation of being pro small government, lower taxes and supporting the constitution but present day neo conservatives are chucking away most of those ideas to support other agendas.

I am saddened that that great old party has turned in the **** hole it now is, I mean they are going to nominate John Mccain after they nominated George Bush"???? can't they see the most democratic person they could nominate would be Ron Paul? The mass ignore machine against Ron Paul by his own party just goes to show me what it has become... =[

  2. The party was formed right before the Civil War.  President Lincoln was the first person to run for president of this new party.  The reason they listed was to fight the Liberals among the Dem. party.  i.e. left and right was formed.  1859 i think

  3. A long time ago so we could fight Liberal Socialist Democrats from getting into office.
