  1. When: A long time ago

    Where: Vietnam

    Why: Sushi

  2. TT is close, but not quite...

Vietnam was split in 1954 at roughly the 17th parallel after the Geneva Accords was ratified by the United Nations. Why the 17th parallel? It was close to the middle of Vietnam and there is a river that roughly follows the 17th parallel, which made a natural boarder between North and South Vietnam.

This was supposed to be a temporary split of the country between the communist North and the democratic South until a nationwide election would determine which form of government would control all of Vietnam. The U.S. and South Vietnam would not allow for the election to happen for several reasons and in fear of communism spreading throughout Southeast Asia. This action eventually lead to the Vietnam War.

  3. When: 1954

Where: at Ben Hai River, 17th parallel

Why: Vietnam was split by Vietnamese war. North Vietnam became Vietnamese Democratic Republic and South Vietnam became Republic of Vietnam. 1975, North Vietnamese took over the country and Vietnam now became Socialist Republic of Vietnam

  4. In 1954, Geneva agreement in Sweden signed by Viet Minh and Indochina French colonial government agreed on dividing Vietnam into 2 parts; north and south at 17 parallel. Reasons Ho chi Ming and his colleagues signed that agreement instead of kicking French out of Vietnam cuz Chinese and Soviet forced them to do it. To drive away  cold wars heated  build ed up between communism and capitalism , to borrow Vietnam as a graveyard to solve this problem. Poor for my country, Vietnam always is victim of the stupid *** country.

  5. I should know my own history:

The French were defeated in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu.  The same year, at the Geneva Conference, Vietnam was supposed to unite under oen government.  However fearing communist victory and led by the capitalist west of the U.S and its allies, the Republic of Vietnam - South Vietnam (I have allegiance to) began the 2nd Indochina conflict or Vietnam War.  In 1975, April 30th the communists overran Sai Gon.

The question to why they split at the 17th parallel (use a world map) was the fact of reality.  Two Vietnams, one people.

  6. Vietnam never likes intruders. After kicked thee French out of the country and defeated the Japanese in 1954. We were split into a North and South along the 17th parallel. The North sided with the USSR and Chinese, the South aligned with the US. The US used an excuse that they were afraid the communist would spread through South East Asia. They assassinated our president and brought in their troops. The commies are still there, 3 millions Vietnamese died. The war ended April 30th, 1975 when the country found out there wasn't any reasons why we have to kill each other. Communist didn't spread through South East Asia as the US predicted. The war wasn't official started until 1960. Six years after the country was split.
