  1. Who knows? And, for that matter would 99.99999% of the population care?

  2. There are very few genuine cars around these days.

The German makes are fairly pure these days but some of them allow platform sharing with other brands.

BMW is about the only pure manufacturer left in the mainstream.  Everyone else has shared, borrowed, sold or is owned by someone or from someone or to someone else. A BMW chassis is only used by BMW whereas Merc or VW chassis turn up in all sorts of places.  BMW do a bit of engine lending... but it's not very extensive.

My opinion on this is to just take each car at face value no matter what it's based on or who owns it.  Just judge it on what it can do.

I would also say there is no such thing a legendary Aston sound.  I like cars a lot and I've never heard of the legendary Aston sound.  That's a new one on me.

  3. You have clearly never heard a Mercedes supercharged engine.

There's very little else in this world that sounds better than a supercharged (AMG) starting up and tearing off.

Given the nature of Aston Martins, I'd take a much more reliable and sexier sounding Mercedes any day.

  4. Given that the AM V12 is two Ford V6's stuck together, that it's been variously manufactured by Cosworth, Audi and Ford of Germany, the question is, what ever are you babbling about?

  5. Some of the Mercs also make fantastic sounds.

  6. Rather have a different sound and an engine with real grunt and the ability to keep going for more than 50 miles unlike the c**p units they have been fitting for years

  7. I am guessing that the engineers will use clever techniques to maintain a similar sound, but it won't be the same.

Aston is quintessentially British, and the use of German components will dilute and cheapen the brand.

  8. yes= its all down to doing things on the cheap
