When Atheists go to court, do they have to swear on the bible?

ok what about back when they did. would they of had to? or would they just let it go cause they are an atheist

  1. Swearing in some states can put you in jail.


  2. In most states, no one swears on the Bible.  You just swear to tell the truth under penalty of perjury.

    EDIT - "back when they did", it would depend on the judge and the state.  Some judges would just tell the jury that since the person refused the oath, the jurors could find that they weren't believable.  Other witnesses might never be allowed to testify.  Others might go to jail for contempt until they changed their mind.

    What difference does it make now?
