When Bernie Ecclestone talks everyone listens (Part 1)
Bernie Ecclestone sees clearly what he wants to. Every newspaper earlier this week carried just the same heading, ‘I’m still here!’ and that was all he wanted to read and hear.
The Formula One Group CEO, who is to celebrate his 80th birthday at the end of this month, still believes that he is ready and fit to carry on with his professional responsibilities for more time.
The Briton has ruled Formula One like no other can. Over the years he has no doubt reigned over the sport as an indomitable warrior exercising immense power and influence over the most powerful people of the World.
Now Ecclestone talked to the media looking back at his glorious years in the Auto racing world and shared his plans for the future.
The Briton now looks back at his long journey over the decade, proclaiming that he has come a very long way. Though there are hundreds of stories regarding his past, Ecclestone ruled out all saying that he was only an ‘ex-used car dealer’ and has covered the long journey step by step to reach where he stands today.
He never actually realised where he would end up one day, but just kept taking right decisions and working towards right directions and now he looks back at all his years with immense contentment.
The man’s involvement in auto racing is very old and deep rooted. Besides running his business of cars, Ecclestone used to race motorcycles and cars as well. However, he quit racing very soon and stepped properly into business, initially buying ‘Brabham’, a former British racing team.
The 79-year old recalled his times as a Formula One racer saying that though his career as a driver had been very short yet he does not regret. He was happy to proclaim that he ran his business as well while he was still a driver but soon converted all his attention towards his business.
The man, who is famous for his strong will power, very firmly stated that he has never had inspirations from anybody and did not ever idolise any person like whom he would want to be one day.
While answering such a question he said, “No. Because you can never say that you want to be like somebody else. Otherwise I would say I would like to be like Robert Redford. But these things don’t happen”.
Moreover, he added that he has never followed any guiding principles and he never plans things ahead of time. He clearly declared that whatever comes his way he does his best with it, which he thinks is an ability he has been born with.
Peeping into the life of the Supremo one could not help but say that he is a real achiever. However, when asked about this he simply said that he has just been a little luckier than the others.
He did not deny the fact that one makes luck himself explaining that when an opportunity comes your way, it is your luck and what you do with it is your personal wisdom. He concluded by saying, “A lot of people stumble through life saying ‘I could have done this’ and ‘I could have done that’. I took opportunities”.
Ecclestone has always believed to be a man with great brains and super natural physical and mental strength. Even at the age of 80 he is defying all human limitations heading one of the biggest and most complicated sports of the World very efficiently.
