Question:

When Breeding Convict Cichlids: Who builds the nest?

Is it the male, female or either?

Because I'm pretty sure I have a female and a male, but the female only has a tiny bit of orange and the colour is not that bright... And the male has no orange or anything, but he's building the nest.

I want to know so I can successfully breed these lovely fish =]

I'm confused :) Any help with breeding would be great!!

Thanks!

P.S - Any nice ideas for a name for the female? =P

  3. I have owned cichlids and I have seen both fish help build the nest, but as previous people have said, the male does the most.  When one starts laying eggs, you'll know for sure.  ;)

As for a name... How about Tweety?  Have you ever seen Sylvester and Tweety Bird?  Tweety was always in his cage... which looked like a jail.  And convicts have the jail stripes.  LOL  It's a suggestion at any rate.

  4. based on the color's the one making the nest is the female the male's have the most color

I have seen it both ways I have watch both the male and female make the nest

  5. Both do...
