Question:

When Does Art End? Is It Protected?

What's your definition of art? Would you protect another's right to create art, even if you didn't like it? Is pornography art? The swastika? Things people might find distasteful? When does art go too far? Is music considered art? Is a faucet dripping music? Does commercialized success create art or make it cheap?

I want to know what people think about this subject. Is art protected under Freedom of speech, since that's kind of what it is? What do you think?

  1. Art is largely defined by the viewer. It's like pornography -- each person "knows it when I see it" but there's no fast definition.

I think people should be able to make any art they like AS LONG AS IT HURTS NO ONE. So, no murdering people and calling snuff movies art.

The swastika is a Buddhist symbol perverted by the n***s. Which is a shame, but there's no escaping the taint it now holds.

I think pornography could be art -- but by some definitions, pornography is not art. If it has artistic value, it's considered erotica.

Music, of course, is art. Yes, a faucet dripping can be music -- depends on the hearer.

Commercialized success is also art -- some of the best in the world. Have you noticed the beauty of an old-fashioned Coke bottle? Or all those Toulouse Latrec's that started their life as advertising.

I'm not sure if it's protected under freedom of speech, but I think it should be. There should be such a thing as "libelous art" which is not protected, though.
