Question:

When FAFSA asks about amount of income tax, should I add state, federal, medicare, and social security?

Or is it just state and federal, or just federal...or WHAT!? I don't have my 1040A form....just my W2 Forms...so the instructions on the online application are NOT helping! :) Thanks a million! :)

  1. You can't get all the info you need to fill out the fafsa from your W2's.  All you can get off of the W2 is the "Income earned from work".  You'll need to look at your federal taxes to determine your Adjusted Gross income, tax liability, and other info for all the questions.


  2. That is somewhat difficult to answer.  They are looking for federal taxes, however, the amount on your W-2 may not be the correct amount to enter on the application. To avoid errors and delays your should locate your 1040A or request a transcript from the IRS before completing your FAFSA.
