  1. IF they were attacked first, they should have protested before the United Nations.  They are a member of the Security Council.

  2. Any study of recents events will show that the Georgians attacked South Ossetia while a token force of Russian troops were there to keep the peace. The South Ossetians are part of Georgia but want to be part of Russia and the Russians were there as Peacekeepers. This was all in accordance with an international treaty.

The Russians retaliated as Russian troops were getting killed and the population was being badly abused by the Georgians.

Rape was endemic. All the Russians want is to secure their borders and look after their people, they did the right thing. However, getting into a situation like this is one thing, getting out is another. They have to withdraw when they feel happy, not with the west's hectoring and bluster bawling at them. We should keep our nerve, understand your enemy and support who is the injured party, Russia.

  3. its the same as when Argentina attacked The Falklands Thatcher sent in the British Army. What do you expect Russia to do when Russian people in Georgia are being killed. The trouble is we get a biased press coverage via our media in Britain. Russia did just enough then pulled out.

Hypocrisy is the word you are looking for.

  4. There is absolutely no proof what so ever that your accusation is anywhere near factual.

Don't you really want to just say you are on Russia's side.

  5. Stuck to the peacekeeping role they were supposedly in.

What's little known is that Russia had troops in the area prior to the Georgian shelling acting as peacekeepers. However, in the opinion of the former British ambassador to Georgia, who finished his time there recently, Russian troops were sympathetic to the Ossetian separatists and only too happy to fire back when Georgian artillery opened up. Not what peace keeping troops are actually meant to do.

That's why that country needs international peacekeepers in there, not Russians. And when I say international, I mean any country with reliable troops, not just the US and the UK.

  6. Whatever the rights and wrongs of it are, how dumb is the Georgian President?

It's like poking a bear with a stick. What did he think would happen?

  7. Prior to that...Russia should not have attempted their quiet land grab.

Georgia had to expose them. Now the world is on alert and bolstering their security.

  8. In the Yugoslavian Civil War, the Slovenians threw the first punch.  Then the Croatians, and Bosnians.  When the Serbs hit back the world was watching, and they got the blame.

Kinda like what happened in Georgia.  But since Russia has about 10,000 nuclear weapons, you won't see America, or NATO jump in.

  9. Not have provoked them by funding and giving weapons to the separatist militias, and not invaded a sovereign democratic nation.

When Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons to commit genocide against his own people, killing over 100000 people, what should the United States have done?

This question useless revisionist moral relativism.

We should just pray that Obama the lightweight weakling doesn't become President. Can you imagine that empty suit dealing with Putin.

    No way, No how, Nobama.
