would it be possible to say that the regions of france with no english military garrision are inleast VASSALS of HENRY V? i.e(berry, bourbon, dauiphine ect.) Also would it be right then to declare henry V dauiphin of france? I would think this would be right because dauiphin basicly means faction heir and regent.E.g prince of wales literly means faction heir so same thing.ALSO the future charles VII would then be declared illegitimate.

I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD ANSWER THIS QUESTION AS BEST AS YOU CAN AND DONT BE ARRAGONT OR ONE SIDED IN YOUR ANSWERS, I LOVE ENGLAND WALES IRELAND SCOTLAND AND FRANCE EQUALLY.

  1. Okay....the only reason that Henry V was named "heir" was because of his marriage to Catherine of Valois, daughter of Charles VI of France. Charles retained the throne and title until he died, at which time, Henry would have become King of France. The treaty also stipulated that Henry's sons would be successors to the throne. No, it isn't possible to declare any portion of France as being the vassals of Henry V. Henry's title would have been conferred only upon the death of Charles VI. There is also the Salic Law to contend with. This law stated, in a nutshell, that inheritance could not pass through a woman, and as such it nullified the Treaty of Troyes, as Henry V's claim to the throne would have been through marriage to Catherine. That is how the treaty was challenged.

Dauphin is a title used only by the eldest son of the King of France, heir apparent to the throne. Henry, not being a son of the king could not properly have taken the title of Dauphin. The title of Dauphin was automatically conferred upon the next heir apparent to the French throne in the direct line upon birth, accession of the parent to the throne, or death of the previous Dauphin, unlike the English title Prince of Wales; which was (and is) granted at the will of the monarch, rather than as an automatic right at birth as was the case with the Dauphin.
