  1. Hand-over hand is safer and more controllable.

  2. You will have better control if you keep both hands on the steering at all times...........

  3. A long time ago (before you were born), cars did not have the accessory called power assisted steering . This is what makes the steering wheel pretty easy to turn when the engine is running . But before that, it could be a real chore to move the wheel where you wanted it - especially at low speeds . And it was very natural to have both mitts on the wheel - preferably at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions . With power steering, the wheel can be controlled with one hand quite easily - even at low speeds . Yes, it is taught and recommended that drivers use both hands on the wheel . On any journey more than 10 minutes long, almost all drivers switch between 1 and 2 hands - whatever is comfortable . Except for the driver's license road test, 2-handed driving is not required and you would not be ticketed for not doing it.

  4. I was taught to keep my hands at 10 and 2 o'clock position. When making a turn both hands are supposed to stay on the wheel...don't always do it though. Maybe I should. I will think about it when I drive home tonight and see what technique I am really using. I might scare myself.
