When I'm on somebody's network, can they see what I'm doing?

Whenever i'm on somebody elses network and i'm doing personal things like banking and stuff, can they see what i'm doing somehow? I always get sketched out whenever i look at my bank account when i'm connected to somebody elses network. So...can they see what i'm doing?

  1. It's possible, but most people don't monitor their networks. If you're on a secure site (https) I think you'll be safe, even if they do try to monitor you.


  2. hmmm i can if i wanted to, and depending on what i wanted to see, a trasparent proxy and the right tweak to Mozilla will allow you to see every sight someone goes to in just about real time, a lil ARP or switch play and u can capture all of a devices on ur networks packets,, the correct OS platform and u can change the data in that traffic as it passes, if done properly can maybe change the teXt in websites u visit or messages u receive in a chat,, IDS/IPS monitor much traffic and commonly are very accurate, FYI https can be sniffed u just would need to use the proper encryption libraries to connect and speak to the server providing secure / http /C is true u can't telnet to https site as u would see nothing in the terminal however u can very simply run

    openssl s_client -connect 36.77.88.99:443

    and 'telnet' to an https site and see the data from requests =) however /C is true

    most people aren't this particular at all
