expensive restaurants because I am paying 5 to 10 times more for my food. Am I being fair? My friends are opposite. I feel more comfortable asking that my $15 steak be cooked properly than asking for another $3 sandwich because it was missing pickles.

  1. you should definitely let them know if something is not to your liking. after all, you are the one that has to eat it, and pay money for it.. i am a server, and of course, it's appreciated if you ask politely, but i'm sure they'll be fine with getting your order fixed.. you are totally FAIR :)

  2. I'm the same way.

That added to the fact that I've worked in both fast food and sit down restaurants. It's expected that your food is of a quality in direct proportion to it's price.

  3. You are doing the right thing. By complaining about the service at an expensive restaurant you are also alerting management that something needs to be looked into in the kitchen, and it keeps their standards up.

The same goes for fast food also. You should also complain to fast food, it's the only way they can see if the employee's are keeping company standards up to par.

  4. If a restaurant has high prices, then the quality of the food and attention to a customer's particular requests are of greater importance than at a fast food outlet.

A 'properly-cooked' steak means different things to different people. It does not necessarily mean 'well done'. In fact many connoisseurs of good food would want blood running out of it. Steak that's too well cooked is going to be dry, tough and pretty tasteless no matter how expensive the cut is.

If that's what you complain about mostly, then you won't be easily satisfied. But you should always ask for the head waiter, then the manager if necessary, to explain your problem. Any decent restaurant management would expect it, and you (and your friends) shouldn't be embarrassed.

  5. I agree with you.  Maybe it's wrong, but when I'm playing the role of the "consumer" I try to take into account whether I'm expecting too much from some poor shlub, making minimum wage, or expecting too little from someone making much better money.   While everyone should care at least a little about doing a good job, I realize that the fast food people are often much more flooded with have-to-be-now orders, and tend to be forgiving with small errors.   Fancy restaurants, in which I'm paying way too much, can at the very least try to accomodate my desires.

  6. I never complain but you are right! You are supposed to get what you are paying for and they are supposed to do their job right. As long as you are not too fussy it good

  7. If what I ordered didn't come the way I asked for it, I generally request that it be fixed regardless of the type of restaurant.  There are times that I just eat it depending on how quick the service was.
