Question:

When I am redoing my shower, how much of the shower valve do I put through the backerboard?

I am redoing my shower surround in tile and when putting up the backerboard I am wondering how much of the valve should be through--just the circular part, or where the tub/shower switch goes in? I am worried that part will not be long enough to go through the tile and backerboard...

Any help would be great

  1. If it is a new faucett it should have come with a round black plastic flange.

The face of the flange(with the faucet still screwed to it ) should be installed flush with the face(the surface of the board that gets tiled) of the backer board.

Before sweating any fittings on you faucet be sure to take it apart so there are no plastic or rubber fittings. If you do not do this, you run a high risk of melting them.
