When I am telling someone that I am not available to babysit for them on one night...

should I tell them the reason why I can't babysit or just simply say, "I am sorry but I'm not available to babysit on ________ night." What if the reason why you can't babysit for them is because you are babysitting for someone else on the same night?

Tell them someone already asked you to babysit for them in case they find out you are babysitting and think you just didnt want to babysit for their kids.  I know its kinda confusing but just tell them someone already asked you to babysit, but tell them you'll be glad to babysit on times when you're free.

well thats good, if they find out about it it means you have other jobs elsewhere which means other ppl trust you too.  just give them the days you are free or the times and say your sorry you arent available that night.  not a big deal

I think what you said is perfectly fine.  Another way of saying it is " I am sorry but have another commitment on______ night.  If anything should change I will give you a call and see if you still need me.".

I do not think you need to tell them why you can't babysitter.  I am mom and had to have a list ready incase my first choice could not watch my kids for some reason.

I have learned that it is easier to just apologize rather than justify.  "I'm sorry, I won't be able to babysit for you Friday night".  You don''t have to give an excuse.  Also, who cares if you are babysitting for someone else?  Are you a full-time employee who is expected to babysit anytime?  If not, then you can babysit anyone and anytime you please!

Unless they have the idea that you're their's alone, just tell them the truth.  Business is business, and if they can't deal, tough.
