  1. Satellite is HD ready. No upgrades are necessary.

  2. You have to contact for satellite provider to send you a new box.  I had the same problem when we got a new TV.  I was with Direct TV & let me tell you I was with them for 10 year when I called & requested a new HD box from them they wanted me to pay $325.  for an upgraded box.  I then called dish & they gave me the whole package for free.. I was really mad.  companies take care of new customers before they take care of their loyal long term ones.  Good luck.

  3. Yes through the provider. I have directv but dish is about the same. They will need to install a HD dish it is bigger than the standered dish. I had to buy the HD reciever box which is also different then the standered one. However chaeck for deals sometimes if you upgrade or just catch a good deal you can get the box free or discounted. And sorry to the other answer it is not HD it is simply digital unless you upgrade the equipment and pay the additional $10 a month fee. and upgrade the dish and reciever. I would also recommend an HDMI cable the difference is noticable on good tvs.

  4. The signal you get from your current satellite is only 480i.

You must get an HD setup to help FULLY utilize your HD TV (i.e. higher than 480i).

I had the same situation with DirecTV. I bought an HD set but it was still only receiving the 480 signal. I upgraded to an HD receiver and got a new dish too (5 LNBs).
