When I call this number, why does it take forever ringing, then beeping, and then simply hangs up on me?

When I call a certain number, I get about ten rings and then a series of double beeps starts that simply ends in one long beep and then I am hung up on.

Any explanations?

Probably a broken answering machine or one that doesn't have a greeting recorded on it.
