Question:

When I connect my lamp to the wall outlet it turns off electricity in the entire house, WHY?

It use to work fine when we got it at the store, and once we plugged it into the wall it shut down the entire house lights!

  1. If it actually trips the main breaker then the breaker for that circuit may be bad. The smaller breaker should trip shutting power off only to that room. Regardless, the lamp is broken.


  2. you may have to much stuff plugged into that breaker so the lamp "breaks the camels back" and flips the breaker

  3. Sounds like something has jarred  loose in the light and is causing a short.  Either have someone fix it or toss it.

  4. Are you really saying when you plug in a lamp it trips the main breaker to your house turning off ALL electricity?  If this is the case you have a bigger problem than what can be answered here.  Call in a pro.  If you just mean it trips that breaker, then there is a problem with the lamp.  One of the wires probably came loose to the lamp socket touching the other one.  This should be easy to fix - unplug the lamp, pull the socket apart and firmly reattach the wires.
