  1. This is some idiot neighbor who has a LinkSys wireless router who hadn't properly secured their network, then found out someone else was using their Internet connection, so set it up to require a password.

Using it exposes you to having the owner see what you are doing on the Internet.

  2. it sounds like your neighbor's signal.

You can see all signals within 200 feet of your laptop.

That is why we password protect and do not broadcast our signal.

Broadcasting announces your signal to the neighbors.

  3. well when your searcing for wireless networks that means your looking at peoples wireless internet they have at the homes or works.  if it asks for a password you obviously dont know it so you cannot connect.  but if it has no password then you can connect to it unless the signal strenght is too low

  4. It's someone else's wireless router, and they set up the password probably to keep people nearby (like you!) from accidentally connecting to a personal network.

  5. That is simply the name of a wireless router.  It is the default and no one changed it.

It probably belongs to a neighbor and he discover someone "borrowing" his bandwidth.  So he locked it with a password to stop you.

You could get you own, or ask a neighbor if you could use theirs (maybe offer to share the cost) or find another one to "borrow".

In most places if the neighbor turns you in there can be a fine etc for stealing someone's Internet.
