I have a really old program called DVD X Copy and it comes with another program called DVD X Rescue. I use DVD X Rescue to backup all the movies that I buy and then I only watch the backup copy. When I back them up am I getting any quality reduction, or is the movie 100 percent the same as the original disk? Thanks in advance!

  1. No, copy DVD is a compress process, it will reduce the quality. Or you may try this dvd ripper, it supports copy dvd to computer with 1:1 lossless quality, my friends recommend it to me, it works really nice

  2. The easiest dvd backup program that

I have found that works 100 percent of the

time is Clone DVD2 and Any DVD.  You need

both programs because Any DVD is a

decrypter, and Clone DVD 2 is a shrinker

(makes a larger dvd fit on a regular disc).

The nice thing about these programs is that

they both come with a 21 day free trial, with

no watermarks, time limits, etc. Click the

link below for the free trial.  Hope this

    helps.

  3. DVD movies that you buy are dual layered (8.4 GB) and dvd-r's are 4.7 GB. Unless you buy dual layer DVD-rs then the original DVD image has to be 'shrunk' to fit on the smaller disk...

    I use these...

DVD shrink to shrink the image file (you can pick to take off options for languages and audio settings, decreasing file size and thus increasing quality)

DVD Decryptor to burn the DVD back to a disk

they are both free and work seamlessly together!

  4. You can try "E.M. Easy DVD Copy".It is very easy to use, only one mouse-click!

E.M. Easy DVD Copy  is an easy, effective, handy DVD movie backup software!

By using E.M. Easy DVD Copy, you can easily copy, shrink and burn your whole DVD at a high speed and with high quality.

You can aslo copy or shrink your favorite titles, pgc, chapters, subtitles and audios to hard disk or blank DVD disc.

  5. Hi Nick,

Pre recorded DVDs are dual layer so when you copy them to a single layer DVD they must be compressed to fit. This results in a slight reduction in quality. It is not pronounced and most people just live with it.

The way I keep mine high quality is by stripping out anything I don't need. I take out "directors cuts", extra languages, sub titles, extra audio streams, extra footage, second version (select wide screen or full screen) previews of coming attractions etc. You will find often more then half of the stuff on a DVD is nothing you need or want.

You can do this easily with Clone DVD. You can set it up to only record what you want. It will then take that data and only compress the video as much as necessary and the resulting quality is excellent.

You can read about and get a free 21 day trial of Clone DVD here - http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd.html

  6. You will usually be losing quality if you're not using dual layer dvds. If you put the DVD in your computer, you can see how big it is. Most movies are between 6-7 Gb, while a DVD-R is about 4.7Gb. You can see how much things will have to be compressed down to fit it in a regular dvd. Sometimes there are movies that's smaller than 4.7Gb, but it's rare.
