My husband doesn't believe that me drinking milk could have anything to do with her vomiting, but yesterday i didn't drink milk until the late afternoon and she puked after that feeding, then today I havent' drank any milk and she hasn't gotten sick. She's 2 weeks old. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it temporary? Is she lactose intolerant?

  1. She could have a sensitivity to milk. I would try and eliminate milk from your diet. Does she react the same when you eat cheese or yogurt?

Start taking a daily diary of your diet to check for any other sensitivities.

  2. Cows milk protein makes it way through the breastmilk and this could be irritating your baby.  See if rice milk or soy work for you and keep up the great job breastfeeding.  This could be temporary, but maybe she just can't do any cows milk, thats okay you have alternatives.  Just think how sick she would be if your weren't breastfeeding right now.  good for you.

  3. She is probably lactose intolerant. Why don't you try the lactose free milk or soy milk to see if she has the same reaction? It could be temporary but not sure HOW temporary.

  4. It is very common actually for a breastfed baby not to be able to handle the dairy in your diet.  I had to switch to soy and lactose free products while nursing.
