When I drink....?

Question

When I drink brown and some white liquor I start to itch, why?????

My mom says Im allergic but i think its her way of trying to make me stop.lol. Im 22 so Im legal.. WHOOOO!!!!!

are you asian or part asian or native?... technically it is an allergic reaction to alcohol. if it doesn't bother you too much then no big deal. some races have an aversion to being allergic. i have seen it and i have had friends who this happens to them.

does your face turn red also? that is also a sign. it really isn't a big deal though it wont kill you... unless you drink to over excess!!!

Try asking a doctor..or maybe drink something else and see what happens!

Well, I've heard that we're all allergic to alcohol, which is why we get "drunk"--it's a side effect as our body tries to fight a substance that is basically poisonous.  And I like to drink, so I'm not preaching.  I don't know why you would itch, though.  It could be an even more specific allergic reaction.  I know I don't get itchy when I drink.

you are allergic!   if you think it is your mom's way of stopping you, then see an allergist and ask for the scratch test to determine this for sure.

on the other hand, it could be an ingredient in the specific type of liquor you are drinking versus the color.  For example, a friend can't drink wines from France but can from Italy?  Her case she went from itching - to changing color (to red blotches) - to one day not being able to breathe, fortunately, someone had benadryl with them.  

If you are able to take benadryl maybe that would be an option.  Taking 1 (to start with) benadryl 30 mins before drinking. REMEMBER, though, some people get sleepy with Benadryl...and the combo of benadryl with liquor could be a nice nap....so I would only try it at home (with your mom watching over you...LOL....) and see if you still have the itch.

I have that problem too. when i drink I get all red and sweaty. and my vission gets really blurry. and i call people i would never normally call. i think im allerjic too

It's not likely your allergic to the alcohol. Most likely, it's something in the brown and white drinks. Stick to clear drinks. Clear Vodka is a suitable choice.

You also don't get drunk because your allergic to alcohol. That's not how it works. If you had an allergic reaction to some alcohol and not all it's not likely your itching is a result of allergic reaction to alcohol.
