The rate of currency is $1 to $10.50 pesos...so what actually comes out of the atm...maybe a dumb question but i'm going on excursions that require US dollar in cancun in a couple of weeks and I need to know this.

Thanks!

  1. Take the dollars with you as long as its not too much.  Or else just exchange for them at the bank.

  2. Pesos come out of the ATM's. You ask for $20 dollars you get 200 pesos.

Bring a bunch of dollars and five dollars with you for tips and small purchases. The bus is 65 cents. US coins are not excepted in Mexico. Your change will probably be in mexican coins..Use your credit card for excursions or large purchases.

Figure on 10 pesos to one dollar. (one dime =one peso) Forget about the 5 cents. It will only confuse you. The dollar value changes every day any way. Right now it's lower than 10.50 pesos to a dollar.

Have a great time. Check out this site for tours. The best prices.

    Good Luck and have fun.)

  3. Pesos. The machines are also written in English and Spanish (in case you were wondering).

If you are going to need US currency then you need to bring that with you. Hope you are using Entertainment plus for those excursions...I think they are the BEST...

  4. You will draw money out of the ATM in local currency. So you won't draw out, say, 100 dollars but 1000 pesos. You will not be given the choice of drawing out dollars in Mexico, just like you don't get pesos from a US ATM. The bank will charge you at their current exchange rate.
