  1. Impossible to say.  However, a lot of campuses have wireless web...you don't even need a router.

  2. if you need to use a hard wire in your room and you connect a wireless router to it, the college might shut down your internet port. My college did this because of security, when you connect through a router you get an IP address from the router and the college wants you to use their IP address. best bet, like everyone else said contact your school, you would probably want to contact the information technology services department or whatever it is called at your college.

  3. That depends on a few different things.

First off, does the college you're planning to attend provide broadband connections/ethernet jacks in the dorm rooms?

If so, is your wireless router also your dsl modem at home?  If its not a separate router from the modem it probably won't work with the colleges network.

  4. Contact your local college or find their website. They will usually have a document for what you will need to have in order to use the campus network (including the internet)

Here is a sample for the University of Oregon.

  5. Some colleges offer wireless internet but you will need a wireless card to go into your computer which you should already have if you have a wireless connection at home....if they offer a wired internet then you need a Ethernet Cable to hook up to your laptop. Be sure you have an Ethernet port on the back of your laptop..looks like an oversized phone jack....

  6. Very difficult to say without knowing which college. If you could be more specific about the college maybe someone would know whether or not they offer wireless internet. If they do and your laptop has a wireless card already built into it (sounds like it does already from what you have said) then you will not need any other hardware.
