Question:

When I join the military?

When I join the military at what point am i considered an adult after i hand in the paperwork go to meps ect? And when i am considered in the military this will mean i am considered an adult right? This will allow me to move out of my parents house before i reach the legal age of 18 right?

Right now i am 17 and am sure I'm joining the coast guard i have the paperwork and all.

  1. No, it doesn't make you an adult, when you turn 18 or get emancipated is when your an adult. Remember, your parents had to sign some of that paperwork saying there allowing you to enlist, would an adult have to do that? Sorry to burst your bubble man, probably less than a year and your an adult.


  2. you're parents have to sign for you if you're 17 or you can be legally emancipated. if you're legally emancipated you can move out of your house as well but joining the military doesn't just automatically do it for you.

  3. your parents have to sign off to until 18 and when you leave off for basic depends on your job. you will be placed in the dep program for a maximum of a year but most of the time for a few months. You are not considered a soldier or whatever a coast gaurd is until you graduate boot camp. but you get paid during bct.
