And what can I do to stop this?! I really have no idea what's happening to my clothes, but it stinks when I take something out to wear and see that it has suddenly developed yellow spots or lines all over it.

  1. If the dresser is fairly new, there could be a release of fumes from the wood stain on the material, much like the smell of formaldehyde in new travel trailers. We had a similar problem in our trailer once.

  2. I THINK YOU NEED TO OCCASIONALLY OPEN THE DRAWERS SO THE AIR COMES IN D

  3.   This is a problem with any clothing that is stored for a length of time. Especially cotton clothing and I believe it has something to do with a damp environment. When I say damp, I don't mean wet, I mean humidity in the air. Wood takes on moisture and then the fabric follows suit and the marks appear.

You can either adequately heat the area and/or store the items in sealed bags. Air the room and area thoroughly and often.

You may use a fabric bleach to shift the stains, although some will be very stubborn. Ensure items packaged are completely dry and aired before storage

  4. I someone smokes in the house it would be nicotine. Gas furnaces will do the same thing over time. You could try putting an air cleaner in your room and it should stop it.

Try putting some bounce sheets in your drawers to get rid of the odor in the clothes. Bounce sheets are great for that.

  5. Do you have a cat? And did they get in there to sleep and end up peeing on them?

Is your dresser old and does it having paper lining the drawers? That could also cause a stain if you leave them in there forever.
